Working to expand the ring!
Hello ring members, existing and potential!
It's been fun reading the blogs of other Vermont knitters, many who are located at opposite ends of the state. This week, I began contacting Vermont yarn shops and fiber sources to alert them of the existence of the webring. I sent a flyer to each one asking that they post it in their shops to alert their customers that the webring is out here in cyberspace and that we are hoping they will join us. If you are a new ring member who found us this way, welcome! Please read my February post for the particulars or click on the Welcome button on the sidebar. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me.
So welcome and please pass the word along!

Welcome, Vermont knitting bloggers!
When the only genuine local yarn shop (LYS) in Rutland closed in 2006, I found myself with no one to knit with or even talk about knitting with. My local knitting network was gone. The local RSVP chapter stopped offering knitting classes. I've spent the last weeks trying to locate Vermont knitting blogs in cyberspace and did stumble upon a handful, but only after many Google searches and wasted time. It occurred to me that a webring of local VT knitters would really make it so much easier to network with other knitters all over the Green Mountain State and learn what they are knitting, what yarns they are using, where they find great home-grown fibers, who is hand-dying what and when, when the good LYS sales are, and if there are local charity projects and KAL's running, etc. I've read so many blogs that belong to various geographical webrings like Sticks in Seattle, Cincinnati Knitting, Southern Knitters, California Knitters, etc. but none were just for Vermont knitters. So I thought I'd start one. Now, I knew nothing about starting a webring but have jumped in with both feet and am now hosting this webring! I'd love to have you join, as long as you are a bit patient with me as I maneuver around this world of webrings.
Here are the rules, such as they are, they are pretty basic and logical and may change as I see fit:

I'd love to have you join, as long as you are a bit patient with me as I maneuver around this world of webrings.
Here are the rules, such as they are, they are pretty basic and logical and may change as I see fit:
- You must be a resident of Vermont.
- You must author a blog that talks about knitting and that is updated at least once a week with new knitting content. Also feel free to share vignettes about life in your little patch of Vermont. Local suppliers of VT-produced products like knitting patterns, yarn, spinning wheels, knitting gadgets are welcome, and feel free to offer the webring members a lovely little discount now and then too. Local yarn shops are heartily welcome, as are any local knitting groups (though you will make me very jealous because there are none in Rutland) and sheep festivals.
- The ring code should be visible on your blog or webpage. You access the ring code info when you join the webring, clicking on the "Join" link in the sidebar. Ditto for the button. Linking to the image is impolite and uses up my bandwidth and I know you wouldn't do that, right?
- The goal here is to talk and network about knitting and Vermont life, not to be deluged with sales pitches, spam, ugliness, rudeness, extreme politics or any other topic/language that would enable others in the cyber world to roll their eyes at us and say, "Don't mind those fools, they're from VT". If you don't behave as your mama taught you, you will be asked to leave and we really don't want that to happen.
- Please find the time when you can to welcome new members. I've found Vermonters to be open, friendly and welcoming, derived from the kind of hearty stock that sticks together and pitches in so I hope we can continue building upon that foundation.
If you have another button you'd like to submit, please do so and I'll put it up. Buttons are good; choices are good.
Welcome, friends, and join the club. Click the Join button over in the sidebar.
